Things are finally starting to settle down around here and we are getting to enjoy the "fruits of our labors" quite literally.

We have been harvesting bunches and bunches of herbs, rhubarb, strawberries, black raspberries, sugar snap peas, green beans, lettuce, and even a few red raspberries, blueberries, and black currants. A generous neighbor invited us to pick tart cherries from their tree, so we brought home a whole bagful of those too.

I love that the kids can just go out to the back yard to get food; they are learning where it comes from and even how to grow their own.

This morning we decided that since our small strawberry patch wasn't going to produce enough to get us through the rest of the year, we should go out to Apple Jack's to get enough to freeze. We spent most of the day picking berries, admiring all their "junk art", visiting with their flock of fancy chickens, and enjoying fresh strawberry sundaes.
